Sexual Dysfunction & Libido

This was a response written by me to an online query re: aging and sexual dysfunction in males:

“Shiatsu massage or acupuncture may be able to help. After ruling out anything serious with your doctor, and getting treatment if needed. Both modalities can work very specifically to support sexual function and libido and should not create any conflict with medications. Do tell your practitioner of all medications you are taking, especially things like blood thinners etc.
Shiatsu is done clothed and is a type of bodywork, that applies pressure to meridians or energy channels, that energize or tonify particular areas of the body. Both shiatsu and acupuncture are ancient- having developed in China as a way to maintain health along with herbs and other natural treatments. Look for someone who has specific training in shiatsu, as it is different than Swedish massage, which is the more common type. Also acupunture if you choose to explore that option is not painful and often one falls into a very relaxed state.
The meridians that may be kyo (low energy) is perhaps kidney and/or liver. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the kidneys are the storehouse of our constitutional energy, as we age, they get depleted.
Lastly exercises such as Tai Chi, and Chi Kung and yoga were also designed to support health and vitality and can be done by all ages. ”
See other posts on the theory behind shiatsu and Traditional Chinese Medicine. It’s worth a try if this is an issue for you or someone you love.
